Personal
Protection Course
The Black Forest Conservation
Association will sponsor a Personal Protection Course expressly for
women June 14 through 18 at the clubhouse on Jenkins Hill.
This course is aimed at people
who have done little or no shooting, and is designed to provide basic
skills in the use of a handgun. It will not make you an expert shot -
only practice can do that.
The first night and part of
the second will provide classroom instruction. The rest of the time
will be spend in actual shooting and range instruction and a session
with a law enforcement officer on the legal aspects of self defense and
handgun ownership.
Classes will run from 6:00 PM
until dark. It will be necessary to attend each session. We will limit
the number of participants to 16, for safety reasons. There will be a
fee - not yet determined but in the $25 - $35 range to cover ammunition
costs. (Ammunition costs are currently out of sight.) In addition each
participant will be asked to provide eye and ear protection.
(Prescription glasses are OK. If you don't wear them, plastic shooting
glasses are cheap. And muff type ear protection is also inexpensive.
Clothing and footwear should be suitable for outdoors and likely wet grass.
We will furnish guns. If you
wish to bring your own firearm, do so (subject to a safety check). Do
not bring ammunition. If you are considering the purchase of a firearm,
we suggest that you take the course first, since it will give you a
chance to try a number of different firearms.
If you are interested in this course, please email Jim Berger
giving your name and an email contact or telephone number.
